Oyster Goodness!

Hoorah! Let’s say it again: Hoorah!!

As of the 27th of February, Oyster capping is in place! I got an email in my inbox this morning telling me

  • You’ll never pay more than the price of a one-day travelcard in a 24-hour period (4:30AM-4:29AM the following day)
  • If you’re only using the bus or tram, you’ll pay no more than £3, the price of a one-day bus/tram pass

All I have to say is it’s about time! We Oyster early adopters have really gotten screwed with the whole pre-pay system up until now if we’ve ended up taking a whole bunch of journeys during the day. I’m so chuffed that this is coming into effect, especially with the way they’re implementing it. I don’t have to know whether I’m going to use the tube a lot before my first journey (as I would if I were going to get a travelcard from a kiosk), but I can just use it and if it turns out I should’ve gotten a travelcard, well, that happens automatically.

I’m right behind you here, Beth. And it’s such a cop out that Oyster PrePay users get stung if they don’t touch in and out: it’s LU’s responsibility, surely, to make sure their gates are closed or manned, and if they don’t, they should be the ones who are penalised!
