Factotum special preview

Bukowski may have been an outsider while he was alive, but he’s certainly never ceased, to this day, to intrigue people’s imagination.

Two years ago, the excellent documentary Born into This aimed to provide a comprehensive portrait of the author, showing aspects of his personality which, while perhaps hinted in his books, had previously been obscured by his somewhat unfavourable reputation.

This year, the Norwegian Bent Hamer tried his hand at directing, as his first English language feature, Bukowski’s masterpiece (in my humble opinion, of course) Factotum- choosing Matt Dillon, of all people, to impersonate Henry Chinaski.

Factotum will be on general release, after a short stint at the London Film Festival, from next Friday 18/11. However, for all hardcore fans, Curzon Soho presents a special preview of the movie tonight at 6.40, followed by a Q&A session with Barry Miles- Bukowski’s official biographer.

The perfect occasion, it would seem, to get rid of all those questions you’ve always been afraid to ask.
