Not Getting Mad…Getting Even
So, I call T-Mobile a few months back because they’ve been advertising an amazing deal for new customers…something like 10,000 minutes for a fiver. I want in on the action, see. I’ve been a loyal customer for 5 years. I get a nice young lady on the other end of the line, and I explain that I want the 10,000 minute deal. “This deal is only for new customers,” she says. I try to explain to her that I have been a loyal customer for 5 years, and I tell her that other companies like Orange are offering loyalty packages to their existing customers. “Your contract expires in February, and you can negotiate a better deal at that time,” the young lady advises. I’m making a face now because this really pisses me off. “So, I have to threaten to leave in order to get a good deal?” “You can re-negotiate in February,” she answers.
It’s getting close to February, and I’m wondering what kind of deal I can get. I’m wondering if I can get one of those “hello moto” phones (just because I want my phone to say “hello moto” when someone calls…it still cracks me up after hearing it on ads a million times). Or, I’m wondering if, after 5 years, I can hold up two fingers to T-Mobile and go with Orange…they do offer two for the price of one at the cinema on Wednesdays. And, they reward their loyal customers. Not to mention that they have the best ads. But that’s just me being brainwashed.
On an aside: the customer service in this country sucks. And, I can say that with conviction as I lived in Japan for 7 years. The Japanese blow everyone else out of the water when it comes to customer service. Sure you pay for it, but so what.
And, speaking of Japan, do a favor for my buddy Mike over at the Tokyo Metblog. If you are planning to visit Tokyo or have been there, Mike asks that you help them out with some ideas of how they can make the site better for visitors. You can contribute by looking here.
P.S. If you have any comments re: the mobile company conundrum, please let me know! I don’t want to get mad at T-Mobile. I just want to get even.

Do you EVER have a good day?
Loads. Just about every day is a good day. But, if I don’t get it out, it stays inside and I will shrivel into a crusty, bitter beast or catch cancer.
Completly agree with you about the customer service in this country. I say that after living in LA where customer service often sucks. Is worse here.
tell me about it. i have a bone to pick with carphone warehouse, argos, tiscali, etc. they have the worst customer service here. i dont feel like wasting my time with them. on top of it all i have to pay to talk to their customer service. they are either dumb or too rude to reckon with. the day i get some proper customer service here is the day hell freezes over.
