Red Ken wins additional powers

The Labour Government has today handed Ken Livingstone additional powers as the Mayor of London and he now has a greater say and more influence in areas including Housing and Waste management areas amongst others.

Six years after being thrown out of Labour party and then being readmitted, Ken now wins additional powers. It appears that he is likely to increase the congestion charges to £25 for the fuel guzzling 4×4. In a way this is more of an eco friendly tax rather than a congestion charge. But whatever it is I like it, in fact I think it will be good if they ban these 4x4s in the city totally. Life will be good then.

Climate and Energy change has been the hot topic in town the last few days. There has been a number of TV reports on how the standby buttons are costing us a lot of money in energy. I think the UK Government is committed to reducing the carbon emissions by 60% but apparently is hoping to bring it down to 20% by 2010. Now the department of Climate and Energy for the London area will come under the London Mayor too. Here is the mayor’s website for more information.
