“We are Londoners, embrace the Londoness!
We want you to come dressed as a visual interpretation of a tube station – a blacksmith with a large hammer for Hammersmith, a manchester clown for Piccadilly Circus or James Bond for Bond Street etc.
You get the idea, so be as creative as you can, with one exception. NO ANGEL COSTUMES, Angel Islington is off limits as it’s closed for engineering works! Seriously, angel costumes would be super-lame.
It’s the end of January, you’ve had enough time to detox and break those resolutions. Kick those blues and come and get trollied with us whilst dressed as an impeccable vision of a tube station, oh yes there will be dancing in the basement of the bar too if you’re hardcore enough.
Prizes for best costume in ludicrous categories and a few games to be played too if you can find them!

Sat 31st January, 7:30pm-2.00am
Zebranos at the Establishment (not the one off carnaby street)
18 Greek Street, Soho, London, W1D 4DS

Free before 10pm, £9 after. Mention Bring Stuff at the door to queue jump.
Come find us at the back of the bar, don’t forget your oyster cards.”

I already know what I’m going as… its going to be Absolutely Fabulous…(hint hint) and for those of you who dont know them all off by heart, here is a list of all the Stations currently open (Not sure if DLR is allowed).

Short notice, but here’s something I got via Facebook….

CLUB NIGHT – FREE THE STREETS! – 13 November 2008

In the summer, the Manifesto Club launched a campaign against booze bans, standing up against the petty bureaucracy that sucks the life out of public spaces. A whole host of activities are either banned outright or only allowed with official permission. As well as booze bans, there are now no-photo zones, no-leafleting and no-demonstrating zones; CCTV cameras watch our every move and we are searched at the entrance of many public buildings. What is behind the creeping regulation of public space? Is the freedom from official regulation trivial in the face of terrorism and antisocial behaviour? Or should free citizens demand the right to regulate public spaces for ourselves?

Speakers:

Dolan Cummings is co-founder of the Manifesto Club; research and editorial director of the Institute of Ideas, where he edits the online review Culture Wars. He has written widely on the regulation of public space, including a Manifesto Club Thinkpiece, Smoking Policies: a civilised approach (PDF).

Steve Forrest is a photographer who is interested in developing a critical perspective on the way we respond to regulation in public space. He worked extensively in the Middle East, Africa and the UK, before joining the photography collective Insight Visual in 2001, where his clients include the the New York Times, Newsweek and Guardian Weekend. His recent project is Paranoid Britain.

Event: Free the streets! Against the antisocial regulation of public space
Date: Thursday 13 November
Venue: The Evangelist (Downstairs), 33 Blackfriars Lane, London EC4V 6EP (Map)
Time: Doors open 7pm; discussion begins 8pm.
Cost: Free to Manifesto Club Members; £5 non-members.

We hope to see you all there!

Suzy Dean
co-organiser

Ruby’s top Halloween Treats are here!!!

Firstly a massive big up has to go out to my Friends over at Bringstuff. Tonight for one night only they will be teaming up with the Almighty Celebrity Murder Party for a night of frightful fund-raising for Charity Camp Cando. BringStuff headed up by Giacomo and Katy, are the people that brought you Black and White Ball and more recently the fantabulous Bring Pirates Pub Boat Brawl!

Its been brought to our attention that there are still over 150 tickets available for this Dreams and Nightmares themed event. If you go to the Bringstuff website or befriend either him or the Group you may well be able to arrange a ticket, the Pre-Party meet-up is at London Bridge 8pm. Alternatively make sure you’re one of the first 150 people at Hays Galleria before 8pm, get your free shot, buy some raffle tickets and get ready for a night that you will not forget!

Still on the Southside of Town is the Lost Society Haloween Weekender.

Lost Society is a renovated 16th Century Barn which originally formed part of the ‘Claphampton’ Manor Estate (get that!). Historically a Banquet was held there in honour of Elizabeth the First, and the Artistic flair and flamboyance of Elizabeth’s England remains present thorough the modern day Decor.

Emma LostSociety hosts special events through the year, Fondue Thursdays, Cocktail class (truly awesome) and the ever Popular Halo Events.

If you only fancy paying a fiver to get your Halloween kicks Lost Society is the Place for you!!

Last but but least is the old faithful William IV on the Harrow Road. Tonight is a Cowboy and Indians Party – which I find kind of refreshing considering that *everyone* is going to be dressed as the living dead this evening (not my best look). Free, funky and in West, this is where I will be heading this evening… Have a good one!

I was coming on the tube home tonight (well the bus and the two tubes, working in Staines sucks), reading the London Paper as usual. I have for the last week or so tried to delude myself that there is NO finacial crisis and everything is NOT going to get more expensive by reading various books on the way to work; however having stayed at the Boys house I was today without any books and therefore having to deal with reality.

Why is it that whoever writes in to do the columns, no matter who they are, they are griping? About the tourists, the grumpy barmaids and the cyclists… The men who WILL stand up for women and the whatever else it is happens to piss them off. I just think its kind of weird that if you have only 400 words to represent your point of veiw that you would spend it griping. Theres so much nice things going on.

For example there is the Optimists Society. these guys are a bit kinda freaky – I discovered them at a Pirate Party, where they gave me a card and told me that they’d spent the majority of the Day on Southbank in Pants and Babygrows – this is before becoming pirates. They also charged people cash to have their piccies done with the panted people and gave all the money to Charity!!! On further investigation I found that these guys do regular events promoting a “glass is fuller” attitude – I’d love to tell you more but the Dude never replied to my email, however you can find the facebook here

OOOH And the Pirate people are having another Party by the way – but more of that another soon…
