A little love…

Wow its a bit quiet around here isn’t it?

I guess that’s what happens in a big massive City with big massive problems, changes and responsibilities. Things get left till later, re-prioritised and eventually forgotten. :C

Poor Metroblogging London. We – I forgot about you. Im sorry. I was supposed to look after you, and instead I just had loads and loads of fun (and some studying) and I didn’t bother to bring you in.

Im a bad person. I promise to be better. I made you a twitter to make up for it ( I don’t think website’s like roses), and I promise to come and see you everyday… even if I didn’t do anything to tell you about, we will look for something together.

Don’t look at me like that… We always had Flickr. We’ve had sixish years together now… We can make this better again.

Optimists to raise money by dancing through central London

On Red Nose Day, Friday 13th March, a group of Optimists Society members will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for a Conga Line, by distance travelled. They’ll be doing it to raise money for Comic Relief, get some exercise, have fun and cheer up Londoners along the 17km route.

\Its not to late to take part mail James @ – james@eternaloptimist.net
The attempt has already been “accepted as a New Record Category” by Guinness World Records, who await details of a “Suitable Claim”. Society members will use Guinness standard rules for endurance dance routines. Bringing together a lead “Conga” and 10 team members to follow. Of course the public will also be welcome to join at the back wherever they like along the route.
The route takes in many of Londons top tourist sites. It will start in London Bridge, take in the sights of the Southbank, head past Comic Relief’s offices on Embankment then head up through Westminster into the Royal Parks, through St James Park, Green Park, Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens turning down Notting Hill to Shepherds Bush, through the new Westfield Shopping Centre and ending at BBC Television Centre in the early evening. The proposed distance will be 17km. It will take an estimated 5 hours to complete. Though we might continue to conga into the night if people sponsor us to…

Metblogs Meetup Tonight!

In case you either have no plans already, or have plans you are looking for an excuse to get out of, or have awesome plans that you want to scrap and take the chance on something even awesomer, then you should come join us at The Eagle tonight for a London Metblogs get together. There will be drinks, and drinks, and also drinks. If you are on Facebook, you can RSVP here, if not you can do it in the comments. Or just show up, either way is cool. The Eagle is located at 2 Sheperdess Walk N1 near the Old Street tube station [map]. I flew all the way from Los Angeles for this* so you know it’s going to be at least slightly interesting. See you there!

(* Other events may or may not have been invovled)

Staines may suck, but…..

I was coming on the tube home tonight (well the bus and the two tubes, working in Staines sucks), reading the London Paper as usual. I have for the last week or so tried to delude myself that there is NO finacial crisis and everything is NOT going to get more expensive by reading various books on the way to work; however having stayed at the Boys house I was today without any books and therefore having to deal with reality.

Why is it that whoever writes in to do the columns, no matter who they are, they are griping? About the tourists, the grumpy barmaids and the cyclists… The men who WILL stand up for women and the whatever else it is happens to piss them off. I just think its kind of weird that if you have only 400 words to represent your point of veiw that you would spend it griping. Theres so much nice things going on.

For example there is the Optimists Society. these guys are a bit kinda freaky – I discovered them at a Pirate Party, where they gave me a card and told me that they’d spent the majority of the Day on Southbank in Pants and Babygrows – this is before becoming pirates. They also charged people cash to have their piccies done with the panted people and gave all the money to Charity!!! On further investigation I found that these guys do regular events promoting a “glass is fuller” attitude – I’d love to tell you more but the Dude never replied to my email, however you can find the facebook here

OOOH And the Pirate people are having another Party by the way – but more of that another soon…

Brown Cow or Stew anyone?

Mack is leaving us this week, so were having a VERY last minute meet up tomorrow at Armanos cafe Tower Bridge….

“The bread is fantastic, contributing to sandwiches that blow the likes of Pret a Manger out of the water.” Flavour Magazine

With a reveiw like and a riverside veiw that i doubt we can go wrong – then we have the company of one Blogging LA’s finest to ice the cake!

See you there!

Come Blog With Us

moar.gifWriting for Metblogs has the potential to be the most rewarding experience in your entire life. It’ll make you rich, famous, good looking, will help you lose weight, make your clothes fit better, and get you a super good deal on a new car. It will make you the most well known person on the entire planet. Yes, each and every one of you. Really.

OK maybe not. Actually those are all lies, but it’s fun at least. The truth is Metblogs is the largest network of locally focused blogs on the web, covering almost 60 cities around the world and we’re looking to add a few new bloggers/writters/authors to this fine site. If you wanna know more about us check out this wikipedia entry but it’s kinda boring so I won’t waste time repeating it all here again. If you wanna write for us, here’s the scoop:

  • All author positions are volunteer. That means you don’t get paid.
  • You must live in (or very near) the city you plan to write about.
  • Anything you post must relate to the city somehow. That means you shouldn’t post a movie review, but talking about going to see a movie at a local theater is fine.
  • There’s no requirement for how much you can or should write, but we ask that if we set you up as an author you make about 3 posts a week.
  • You can post about things you love, you can post about things you hate. It’s entirely up to you

Additionally, because of our global network, there’s plenty of options for things you write to be read by people all over the world. Interested? Want more details? Post a comment and we’ll be in touch!

Introducing The Hub

hub.metblogs

If Metblogs is a city, hub.metblogs is the playground. We kept hearing from people that one of their favorite parts of Metblogs was meeting and interacting with readers and writers from other parts of the world, as well as getting requests for more ways that readers could be involved besides just posting comments. We thought about this for a while and decided that with a network like this, a giant community area where folks from all over the world could hang out, post photos and videos, talk with each other, form groups, play games, send messages, and do about a million other things was probably a pretty fun idea. The Hub is that.

If you have any tech ideas or suggestions join this group and speak up. See you on hub.metblogs!

Become a London Metroblog author

This blog is looking for new authors to join our big chunky soup of writers.

In the great tradition of Speakers’ Corner, there are no rules here — you can be as independent, unique and creative as you want. We are looking for dynamic bloggers who are passionate about London and are interested in contributing to a growing global community.

The only guidelines are that you must live in Greater London and generally be able to post three or more times a week.

If you would like to apply, send us a brief blurb about yourself and a link to your blog (if you have one — this would be nice but isn’t essential.)

Please apply by Friday, March 9, 2007.

Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of fags….

It would seem I am not the only one dreading the ever impending Smoking Ban(July 1st).

Tom over in Berlin is sick and tired of the non smokers dictating where it is ok to smoke – Hilarious, I am thinking of moving to Berlin!!!
