Major demo, on Tues 31st March. Protesting against Westminster Council’s cash-grabbing and opportunistic fees. The scheme to make you pay to park your bike isn’t permanent yet. If enough people kick up an inconvenient fuss, they will quietly bin the scheme. So – protest!!!

No to the Bike Parking Tax

You may have noticed that motorbike parking bays in central London have suddenly sprouted new signs, demanding payment for what has always been free.

This is Westminster Council’s latest bright idea. They admit, in writing, that this is nothing more than a method for extracting cash. So – a new tax on motorcyclists. No doubt, cyclists will be next, and then – who knows? – pavement tolls!

What London needs is a transport infrastructure that works better – and a vital part of that is heterogeneity. You need a mix, people on buses, people on tubes, people who cycle, people who walk, and people who ride scooters and motorbikes. Motorbike riding has been on the rise lately, to London’s benefit. So what do Westminster do? They think “Aha! Money!!”

Right now, the scheme is a test. Here is a video, from last night, of what Westminster Council can expect more of, if they don’t cease and desist with this idiotic plan.

Did anyone else hear the alternative tube announcments at Hammersmith last night?

It was absolutely Hilarious!

I noticed something was up when the guy announced the "district line train on platform two, calling at all stations to Upminster with a U." Hmmmm...

Swiftly followed by "The next train on platform one will be the cockfosters train" and he giggled followed by some static.

This was my train. I was tired and figured I was hearing stuff. No one else seemed to have noticed anything.

Until... "Lay your bets ladies and gentlemen please"a doff and some static.

Now the people were paying attention. "On your right we have the Piccadilly line and on the left the District line in racing green"

You know Im giggling my head of now right? The people are just like staring...

*STAND CLEAR OF THE CLOSING DOORS -MIND THE DOORS PLEASE*

"and while the Piccadilly line is talking about it the District line is closing the doors taking the lead!!" doff doff.
So the train doors slam shut and as it accelerates out I just catch him...

"TOO BAD Piccadilly ... looooser!"

I wish they did it like that everyday....

WET MASH!!!

I was talking to some peeps last night, some of who hadn’t come across the famous (as I thought) London Anagram Tube map. It was a mini net sensation back in early 2006, before – believe it or not – it had to be taken down following threats from Transport for London’s lawyers. As if a humorous map of the tube is going to harm their public image!?

Whole sad story here (harms TFL’s image much more than some silly map)

Anyway, as we know, it’s impossible to get anything much taken down off the net by bully-boy tactics, and I found a version of the map after about 30 seconds googling web searching. Plus a load of other humorous and interesting variations on Harry Beck’s iconic and beautiful London Tube map.

Hopefully this post won’t call down dismal locust-like hordes of cold-hearted legal types.
